Change of plans – no bear viewing today. Woke up about 6am to the sound of raindrops. The wind was too bad over the mountains heading into Katmai so the trip was cancelled – such a bummer. We’re on to Plan B. After breakfast at Spit Sisters again, we decided to take a water taxi over to Halibut Cove, have lunch and check out the art galleries. The boat leaves at noon so we have a couple of hours free so are squeezing laundry in.

Well so much for that idea too. It really started raining pretty hard while we were at the laundry mat, so we ended up not going over to Halibut Cove either. Instead we went into downtown Homer, went to the Pratt Museum (where we ran into Dale AGAIN!) and checked out some local art galleries. We didn’t buy anything but saw some interesting pieces. The receptionist at the museum recommended the Cosmic Café for lunch and it was convenient so we grabbed some nachos for lunch. They were good but nothing like the seafood nachos we got in Denali.

After lunch we went back down to the Spit and checked into taking a water taxi over to a park for some hiking and scenic views tomorrow. Since we need to get to Anchorage at a reasonable time tomorrow night our schedule is somewhat limited. We had pretty much decided to do that (it’s supposed to be a pretty day tomorrow) and just headed back to our room. I took a much needed nap and Bob grabbed the computer. He was so depressed about the bear trip being canceled he desperately looked for alternatives. And I’m happy to say he was successful. The boy kept at it until he found someone who had openings and would get back in time for us to still be able to get to Anchorage by 8pm.

I took the opportunity to call Cari since it wasn’t too late in Virginia. We got to chat about half an hour. I miss her. We usually talk for at least a few minutes each day. Between our excursions and the time difference it’s been challenging to find a time that worked for both of us. It was wonderful to hear her voice and discuss her week so far.

Fat Olives was recommended by several people so we wanted to try it for dinner. We both ordered the Rockfish and honestly it was pretty bland. Neither one of us have ever had Rockfish we didn’t like – now we have. All I can say is at least we weren’t hungry anymore.

Coming back to our “cabin” and trying to get everything together for an early morning check out was a challenge. The “cabin” was so small and since there was no closet and no dressers we had been living out of our suitcases basically since we left home. Doing laundry that morning helped but we still had crap everywhere. It was another late night for both of us, but being excited about our bear trip in the morning was motivation.
