After a long night of tossing and turning, listening to Bob snore and just being miserable morning finally came. I wasn’t jumping out of bed. But I was awake anyway since I didn’t sleep. Breakfast came around 8:00 and Bob went to the gym while I stayed in the cabin doing other stuff. It was generally a relaxed morning. When we left the cabin to go upstairs and grab a burger at the grill before heading into town we ran into Gigi and Jacques leaving at the same time. So we went upstairs and enjoyed a burger together then took a water taxi over to the town.
Since this was our first shopping venture we weren’t sure what to expect. Actually pretty disappointing. It was 90% regular jewelry shops. Nothing different from what you can find at home. Except here they were on you like white on rice. It was bad. And on top of that I guess the style these days is big and gaudy. Neither one of us found much that we were interested in. The flea market part of the shopping where locals sold their wares was the same thing. They all had the same items and you couldn’t make eye contact or look at anything without them trying to sell you something. It just wasn’t my kind of thing. We did pick up a couple of t-shirts for $5 each though and Bob found a $5 hat he liked. That was pretty much it.
We thought about takings taxi to the other side of the island, Saint Marteen (French) – verses Saint Maarten (Dutch) but decided to grab a beer somewhere instead. We stumbled across a little dive called the Kangaroo Court. The local beer was Carib, served with a lemon and was pretty good! Four beers for $10 – can’t beat that!
It was nearly 3:00 by then so we just headed back to the ship to chill before dinner. Bob and I and went to the spa, came back and showered and had some downtime before meeting Rick and Regina and Karen and Adrian for dinner. Our regular crew had our table all set up and we thoroughly enjoyed socializing at dinner and being pampered and made to feel so special by our Ganna/Gabriel team. It was formal night and the main course special was lobster tail. Oh dear God. And dessert? Baked Alaska. Heaven pure and simple. Heaven.
After enjoying a glass of wine in the Wine Cellar we decided we weren’t going to make the adult comedy show at 11:45 that night. We were all just done. Night night.
