As Bob said earlier, “We slept in today.” Ha. Ha. Ha. He slept until 7:00. He finally made it all night. He was right, took him a week. Our beach looked calmer than we expected after The Doc crashed our dreams yesterday, so we decided to drive to Turtle Bay this morning to see what we could see anyway. Even if we couldn’t snorkel we could just enjoy the beach – at least that was our plan. You know how those damn plans tend to change. As we left Haleiwa Harbor the surf was even rougher, but Turtle Bay is only about 20 minutes away so we trudged on.

It’s a beautiful resort with a public beach (although only guests get to use the good chairs – that’s ok, we took our own). Even though the rest of the water was churning up some white caps, the cove was calm in comparison. We still had hope at this point. So we set up our chairs and waited for the sun to come out. BOB (big orange ball) had been playing hide and seek all morning. The winds kicking up the surf were pretty strong and without BOB it really didn’t feel hot enough to even get in the water. So while we waited for BOB to come out of hiding, the beach was getting busier and there were more hopefuls cruising around out there with masks and fins. We’re older. We’re wiser. We may be lazier, I don’t know. But we waited for some of those hopefuls to come back in and tell us if it was worth getting beat up out there. The longer we sat there the worse the currents and waves seemed to be. Bob (little “o” Bob) and I just kept looking at each other shaking our heads saying, “schew!” The survey said it wasn’t worth it. We kind of figured that. So thought we’d just enjoy the beach. Uh huh. While BOB was napping his friends the rain clouds started moving in. Sigh. Plan B.

We figured if we were just sitting on the beach we may as well be in front of our own place, so we packed up. Right in time. We weren’t in the car but a few minutes and it was pouring. It’s so weird how different the weather can be just minutes away from each other. On the way back to the condo it was looking a little bluer! While eating lunch out on the lanai, we started seeing sea turtles right out front! So exciting! You know we tried to get pictures. You know it didn’t work. Figuring we could get closer down on the shore, we grabbed our chairs and bags and headed down. Yeah, we never did get any good pictures but we saw a ton of them throughout the afternoon. If only it was low tide and calm it would’ve been amazing snorkeling down there.

Knowing we wanted to be around for our final sunset at this lovely spot, we went for an early dinner at Uncle Bo’s – it got great reviews! We weren’t disappointed. Bob got one of the fish specialties and I opted for another shrimp pasta dish. Soooo good.

Back at the condo it didn’t appear BOB was going to cooperate again. But you never know when that gorgeous color is gonna shine through all those gray clouds. There’s always hope! We didn’t get much but there was a small moment when we had some color surrounding the clouds.

That’s all folks! Time to pack up and get ready to move on in the morning. Kauai here we come!
