This was our morning to hike part of the Napoli Trail hoping to get some nice shots. The trail is 11 miles long but we were planning to only do 1/2 mile in and back. Supposedly you can get a nice view from there. From what we’ve read the trail is rocky and if it’s been raining (which it has rained every single day), it muddy and slippery. We really didn’t have room for our hiking backpacks, boots and such on this trip for one hike so the plan was to take the easy route this time. Ha! Hiking in water shoes wasn’t exactly helpful either but someone suggested that because we could wash them off at the beach afterwards. We didn’t have disposable shoes, which is what they would’ve become after this hike. So we wore our water shoes. We must’ve looked like dorks. But hey, we had hiking sticks!! LOL I don’t mind hiking or even a bit of climbing, but when the path is slippery I get nervous. So this wasn’t one of my favorite things. Here’s a shot I took of a small piece of the trail …

And to top it off, the coast was all fogged in when we got to the lookout point. This is the money shot …

It is what it is, right? Below is a nice view of Ke’e (pronounced Keh-AY) Beach. That’s our reward after we get back down to the bottom. It’s one of the nicer beaches on the island and is said to have great snorkeling. Parking is limited and since it shares parking with the hike, it gets crowded quickly. Which is why we were there at 7:45am. And we weren’t alone.

Thankfully, I made it to the bottom with all bones intact and no scrapes – just lots of mud. Shortly we had picked a spot on the beach and set up to stay a while. It was turning out to be one of the nicest beach days yet. There were people on the beach but it wasn’t crowded. These trees amazed me. Look at those roots!

It didn’t take us long to get our snorkel gear on and join the others swimming around the reef. We didn’t have high expectations (water was calmer than it has been but still not perfect for snorkeling) and boy were we delighted! We’re both using new cameras and it’s been a while since we’ve snorkeled so there’s definitely a learning curve going on here. I had no clue until we got back to the condo if I had gotten anything at all. The water was definitely clearer the first time we went in and I could feel the currents getting stronger as the day went on but all in all I’m tickled with the fact that I got any decent shots and video at all. Video 1 Video 2 Video 3

We had taken sandwiches and grapes for lunch. I think that was pretty much gone before noon. About 2:00 we were done and hit Bubba’s Burgers for linner (lunch and dinner). 100% grass fed Kaua’i beef burgers. They weren’t bad. Only way they could’ve been better is if we had a beer to wash them down with. Guess that’ll have to wait until we get back to the condo.

And another sunset bites the dust.
