The day dawned cloudy, overcast and windy -very windy. We had been looking toward to our sailing excursion planned with Pieter and Mirian on their catamaran No1sxm. But the winds were so strong we ended up canceling. It was pretty disappointing and by noon it had cleared up nicely and we were wishing we had just gone with it. Live and learn I guess. So we ended up taking a ferry to downtown and walking around. The vultures around the main shopping areas were just horrible (they always are) but we pushed through to get to the little flea market we remembered.

We walked around and did some shopping (mostly at the flea market and got some great finds. Some t-shirts, hats, jewelry and more will be coming home with us. 🙂 After walking through the streets looking the the Kangaroo Court (it’s gone, we did find where it used to be), we settled on a place to plant for a while (have a beverage, something to nosh on and just enjoy the sites). Oauichi’s was right on the boardwalk with a French owner that was simply splendid. He just pulled us in and catered to us. (We talked with him about the damage from the storms last year. His place was demolished – what the storm didn’t destroy looters did. Still a lot of the island – in fact the French side has basically done no rebuilding – has a long way to go. The boardwalk and the part that we saw looked pretty good. It was nearly a year before the cruise ships came back though. Since tourism is what keeps the island going that was tough.) I got a wonderful frozen mojito (that didn’t have much alcohol in it but it sure tasted good) and we ordered a margarita pizza with chicken. It hit the spot, as did another mojito. LOL By the time we finished it had warmed up nicely and we headed back to the ship to veg out the rest of the day by the pool – a little reading, a little napping, a little people watching. Eventually the music (and I use that word loosely) got to us and we went back to the room.

We had looked at the menu for the MDR and didn’t see much that excited us so decided to hang out in the Ocean Cafe for dinner. We scoped out our choices and walked by a stir-fry station that smelled heavenly and that ended up being what we both had. To be able to grub out, not have to dress up and eat a meal like that? Mmmmmmm. We were able to grab the 7pm show in the theater (comedian/magician). The guy was really good – great presence, funny, had some amazing tricks. Of course there was audience participation and we wondered how genuine that was. Since we didn’t have anything else going on we went back to the 9pm show and it was kind of a let down. The guy is still good but the audience participation was preplanned and not genuine so seeing that part was staged diluted the other parts of his show for us.
The Wedding Show (a take on the Newlywed Game) was a 10:30 and while we were planning to go to that, we were just too tired. Figured we could catch it on reruns on the TV in the cabin. I guess I’m still fighting a cold and. my energy level is so not normal.
Bob was looking for some dessert and didn’t realize the Cafe closed most of their stations at 9:30 – it was little after 10pm. I did remember that Cafe Bacio had some desserts and we wanted tea so back down to Deck 5 we went. Hit the spot!!!
Dominica tomorrow – nothing much planned. Should be a pretty relaxing day.
